Comprehensive Eye Exams

Our comprehensive eye exams go beyond just checking your vision. We assess the overall health of your eyes to detect early signs of eye disease, find an accurate prescription, evaluate how coordinated your eyes are, and screen your eyes for symptoms of physical conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

Our family-focused approach means that every member of yours is welcome to any of our practices.

If you're due for an eye exam to update your prescription, look no further than Eye Designs Optometry. Our eye doctors are here to ensure that your vision is at its best.

During your comprehensive eye exam, you can expect to have the clarity of your vision tested and the health of your eyes examined. This will be done by having you read an eye chart, using advanced diagnostic tools to see the inner tissues of your eyes, and through assessing your eye muscle movements.

Eye Care for Everyone

Good eye care is essential for everyone, regardless of age or vision needs. That’s why we recommend annual eye exams for all people, including those who don’t need vision correction. Additionally, individuals with diabetes or high blood pressure should have more frequent eye exams as these conditions can impact vision.

As you age, certain eye conditions may arise that require attention. For example, individuals over 40 often experience presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) which affects near vision. For those over 60, the risk of developing age-related eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration increases — which is why regular eye exams are crucial for detecting these conditions early and preventing their progression.

Eye Exams for Children

Children need quality eye care too, which is why we offer child-friendly eye exams that are designed to detect and address any potential vision problems early on to support optimal learning and development.

The frequency of eye exams for children varies based on their age. Infants should have their first eye exam at around 6 months of age, followed by another exam at 3 years old and before they start school.

If your child wears glasses or contacts, they need annual eye exams throughout their schooling years. Ideally, even children without eye problems should get their eyes checked yearly. This ensures proper vision development and helps identify conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), and refractive errors.

Additionally, children with the following risk factors should have more frequent eye exams:

  • Premature birth
  • Developmental delays
  • Crossed or turned eyes
  • Family history of eye disease
  • History of eye injury
  • Other physical illnesses or diseases

Contact Lens Eye Exam

If you're considering contact lenses as a vision correction option, a contact lens eye exam at Eye Designs Optometry is an essential step.

While a regular eye exam evaluates your overall eye health and measures your vision, a contact lens eye exam focuses specifically on fitting and assessing your eyes for contact lens use.

One of our eye doctors will carefully take measurements of the curvature of your cornea, tear film quality, and other factors to determine the most suitable type and size of contact lenses for your eyes. They’ll also teach you how to insert, remove and store your contact lenses in a way that minimizes the risk of eye irritation or infection.
